Board Update #95 [2004/09/17]

Hi Folks,

The Board of Directors met in a workshop on Wednesday, September 15. Here is what we discussed:

1. The chairs of the Nominating Committee and Election Committee have submitted recommendations for modifications to the Board of Directors election process. These are currently under review. I expect that the board will vote on the recommendations at the board meeting on October 28.

2. At the Resident Board Members' request, the developer has identified a location for additional garden plots and expects to make them available late next year. Specifics will be communicated to the Okatie Farmers group shortly.

3. The traffic engineers have responded to the suggestions made by Karen, Al and I regarding implementation of the traffic study and implementation will begin shortly. The bulk of the changes will address clearing sight lines at key intersections They will begin traffic counts on Sun City Blvd. in October to determine the need for stop signs at the intersections of T. Heyward and Sun City and Argent Way and Sun City. Stay tuned. The Resident Board members suggested and Ken Hull directed the Sales Department to not use the Alexandria Village "shortcut" and to not direct sales prospects to use this route to reach the new neighborhoods. Ken and Rob Smith will meet with Andy Kudarauskas to discuss the Alexandria Village traffic issue.

4. The developer has turned the RV Park over to the Community Association with an agreement to allow the Boat and RV Club to coordinate its operation. The club has submitted operating procedures to management for this new amenity and are awaiting board approval.

5. The board approved, via Unanimous Written Consent, a recommendation by the Golf Advisory Committee to allow golf package holders who run out of rounds to purchase additional rounds at the same per round price. This will be a permanent policy for the future as well.

6. The three resident board members will meet with Bob Mahnke to begin planning for the next round of amenity projects. This will start with the plan to move some of the sports facilities from Town Square to a new Sports Park at the corner of T. Heyward and Sun City Boulevard near the dog park.

7. The board will hold a Community Association Town Meeting on Wednesday, November 10 at 10 AM. We will make a brief presentation on our work in 2004 and devote the majority of the agenda to answering questions from the residents. The Community Association Annual Meeting will follow the Town Meeting.

8. The board discussed various ways to encourage diverse resident participation in the board appointed committees, including the selection process. Stay tuned on this one as well.

9. The developer continues to discuss issues regarding vinyl siding with Owens Corning. We are hopeful that more information concerning this subject will follow shortly.

Mark a couple of dates on your calendar. The Finance Committee will present the updated Five Year Plan as well as the 2005 Budget proposal to the community at 8:30 AM on Thursday, October 21. The October Board of Directors Meeting is at 10 AM on Thursday, October 28. Both meetings are in Pinckney Hall.
