Board Update #177 [2007/11/15]

Workshop Summary

Board Update 177       November 8, 2007 BOD Workshop               by Barbara Lenta

Your seven (Board of) Directors began promptly at 8AM with a briefing on the Sun City Hilton Head Day that was held later on November 8th.  This activity, organized by the Government and Business Affairs Committee, brought both political and educational leaders from the State, Beaufort County and Jasper County here to network with our Board of Directors. PowerPoint presentations by the Government and Business Affairs Committee, Strategic Planning Committee and the Transition Team provided our guests with an improved awareness of what is happening in Sun City while they spoke with us about what is occurring at the state and county level. A special thanks to Carl Lehmann and his committee for excellent planning that resulted in an excellent program.

Future uses of Palmetto Commons were discussed. Once Pulte turns this impressive building over to us, we will need to make the changes necessary to accommodate our needs and desires. One third of the building is planned for offices for our CAM employees while plans for the remainder have not been determined.

Clarifications of the Modifications Committee Appeals and Design Guidelines Responsibility as well as the responsibilities of the Architectural Review Board were discussed. These are both described in the CC&Rs and will continue in the same manner as described.

The funding of campaigning for BOD elections has been an ongoing topic of discussion. Last year, reimbursement for some funding to run for the Board was made available. This year, rather than reimbursement, each candidate will be requested to submit a print-ready flier to CAM for duplication and distribution to be paid for by the Community Association.

It was agreed that beginning in January the monthly Board Workshops will be open to all residents. The purpose of these workshops is for discussion of current topics and to set up an agenda for the Quarterly Board of Director meetings. More information will be made available when time and room arrangements are determined.

The issue of street trees and particularly the trimming of trees along our roadways was discussed. Further discussions will be held after Dave Messeroll investigates some policy issues.

We completed our workshop with a discussion of methods that might enable us to better communicate.
