Board Update 200 September Update by Barbara, Clifford
The Sun City Hilton Head Board of Directors at its regular monthly workshop was unanimous in their approval of Sun City’s Hurricane Preparedness and Recovery Team’s performance. The Board began a review of the implementation of its Emergency Plan when it closed all facilities in anticipation of hurricane Hanna. According to Derek Morgan President of the Board, “Resident and employee safety were the paramount objective of implementing the plan prior to any evacuation orders.” The Board of Directors was fully engaged in the process of closing down the facilities.
The review also indicated satisfaction with preparations that secured specific facilities and the establishment of communications among key staff. According to other Board members there were up to 21 staff personnel on-site along with 43 contract employees on stand-by. Sun City security had their normal complement of personnel along with 10 personnel in an emergency stand-by mode. In total, there were over 70 potential personnel available to be on-site if and when necessary during the facility closure.
The Board planned to continue its review but according to Morgan “The Board is in full agreement that we will not forsake our responsibility for resident and employee safety”.
The Board expressed its thanks to all members of the community who helped their neighbors and friends with the installation of hurricane shutters.
In other business the Board received a report from the Neighborhood Representatives Council. Ron Wilson, chair of the Council presented the report. The NRC with its 41 Neighborhood Representatives and alternates provide a forum for collective communication between neighborhoods. The Council’s consensus is often seen as the resident voice to management and the Board of Directors. Improving communications and responsibilities were the focus of the report.
The Board also received a report from management Executive Director, Dave Meseroll indicating that a Request for Proposal for a single trash hauler to serve Sun City was near completion. It is anticipated the RFP would be issued in September and a contract awarded by the beginning of 2009 if all requirements are satisfied according to Meseroll.
