Sun City timeline from the Del Webb/Pulte perspective

February 1995 -- home construction starts.

June 8, 1995 -- Sun City Hilton Head has its grand opening and about 600 people attend. Gov. David Beasley says the project's "impact will be bigger than anything we've ever seen in South Carolina." Plans call for the sale of 500 homes per year over the life of the project. That goal has never been met.

September 1995 -- Del Webb announces another in a yearlong series of rain delays at Sun City Hilton Head. A rain gauge on the property recorded 21 inches of rain between Aug. 21 and Aug. 28. The delays have already set the project back two or three months.
