May Elections
by Karen Pacifico

On May 17th, we will elect a resident board member and in addition to that important position, fourteen (14) neighborhoods will elect a Representative and an Alternate to serve on their Neighborhood Committee.

In the last few months I’ve attempted to explain the role of the Board as the governing body of the community and provided you with an overview of the structure of the Board, as well as the duties and responsibilities associated with the position.  Additionally, last month I addressed the importance of the position of the Neighborhood Representative and Alternate.  Neighborhood Committees serve as a conduit between the Association’s Board of Directors, the Community Association and the residents of a neighborhood.

It’s an important message to restate that this community needs residents who are committed to making their neighborhood and the community of Sun City Hilton Head the best it can be.  We need residents who are willing to be responsive to the community’s needs and who encourage all members to share in upholding the rules, regulations and values of the community.  Serving in these positions is an excellent training ground for future Association leaders and truly this community can’t exist without strong resident leadership.

I urge you to get to know as much as you can about the two candidates running for the Board of Director position so you can make an informed decision.

The Board needs qualified and dedicated members who possess the organizational skills, knowledge and relevant experience to get the job done.  Please reference the information I provided in my February, March and April columns of SunSations to review the essential elements of the position.

There will be three (3) Candidate Forums held in the ballroom of Pinckney Hall where you can learn of the candidates’ views.  This is also the perfect venue where you can take advantage of an opportunity to ask questions regarding your concerns.   These forums will be moderated by the Elections Committee chairperson.

Candidate Forums have been scheduled as follows:

·        Thursday, May 5th from 10-12

·        Tuesday, May 10th from 1-3

·        Thursday, May 12th from 7-9 p.m.

Please read the correspondence you receive, attend the Forums and generally participate in the campaigns.  Most important, please cast your important ballot on May 17th.
