Beaufort County Administrator’s Office and Pulte/Del Webb Announce Plan for Truss Review Process at Sun City Hilton Head

Hilton Head, S.C., June 19, 2007 – The Beaufort County Administrator’s Office and Pulte/Del Webb announced today a process and proposed timeline for reviewing the valley set truss connections of some homes built at Sun City Hilton Head.

The valley set truss review process will involve homes which were built after January, 1, 2004.  Three teams made up of independent inspectors representing Beaufort County, representatives from a framing company and a Pulte/Del Webb representative will be part of the review of the homes.

A representative sample of approximately 200 homes which were built after a design change in 2004 will be reviewed first, beginning in July, 2007.  This initial step will allow the task force to determine the extent of this situation and develop any necessary remedies if required.

If the inspector concludes that a truss connection modification is required, a contractor will be on hand to make the modification at that time. Upon completion of each home review, a copy of the evaluation will be provided to each homeowner.

“We remain committed to resolving the concerns of our residents,” said Gary Kubic, Beaufort County Administrator.  “The process we have in place will allow a neutral third party, who has been trained and certified by the state of South Carolina, to evaluate the homes and recommend needed repairs.  Our hope is that any necessary modifications can be performed immediately after review of the home.”

“Pulte Homes is working with Beaufort County to address citizen concerns,” said Jon Cherry, Pulte's South Carolina Coastal Division President.  “This task force will work diligently, systematically and cooperatively to ensure that each home in Sun City is performing properly.”

To keep Sun City Hilton Head homeowners informed about the truss review process, a secured web site has been created. The web site includes a list of frequently asked questions, news and contact information.  Affected homeowners can expect to receive communications from Pulte/Del Webb shortly about this special web site, including sign-on instructions.
