Meeting minutes
from Perry – 10 a.m. Sept. 10. 2003, at logo building.
Present – Juli Yale, chairwoman; Bob
Rasmussen, Bea Boockholdt, Roland Faricy, Perry Molinaro. Absent -- Nikki
Walsh, Marilyn Fletcher, Steve Koehl, Hal Meeks, Holly Field.
Juli opened the meeting and
gave reports for Holly and Nikki.
Publications – Nikki was working on next year’s budget, and indicated to Juli that Steve O’Donnell wants the SunSations advertising revenue to be increased. Also, Juli, Holly and Nikki met with O’Donnell to confirm editing guidelines, particularly articles from the Board of Directors, chartered committees, task forces, and neighborhood reports. If editing suggests changes in contents, Publications is to touch bases with the author. Submitting writers have the option of accepting discussed changes or not having the article published under their name. Holly plans to speak to the Interclub Council about getting e-mail submissions to SunSations rather than handwritten ones.
Newcomers – August
activity report: Greeted 88 newcomers from 52 homes and held two coffees with 37
attendees from 24 homes. Barbara
Hahn has asked to join the group and has been interviewed by Linda McCartney,
who is in charge of greeters, and by Judy Young, coffee organizer. Bea said home
closings should be listed in SunSations; Juli will talk to Nikki and O’Donnell
about this. Bob suggested using quarterly and year-to-date reports in the
publication.
Phone directory – The supplement has been delivered to all houses along with the September SunSations. It contains changes submitted after Jan. 10, 2003, and was printed Aug. 11. The contest for the 2004 directory will be Oct. 16 and the directory will be published in March.
Web page – A notice will be in the October SunSations about using Steve Koehl’s web site as the suggested Internet home page on resident’s personal computers.
Broadcast – Bob said schedules of Channel 50 programs are being published in SunSations (see page 42 in September issue). A committee with Bob, Jim Bacon and Jody Dorrell has prepared an emergency broadcast proposal. It states that procedures be set to allow a short text message to replace the program content on all three Sun City channels: 50, 51, 52. Ken Hull, Steve O’Donnell, Lyn Kennedy and Jody Dorrell would authorize using an emergency alert on the channels anytime one of them believes it is necessary. A specially generated PowerPoint presentation would be broadcast, using a computer in the broadcast room that would run the presentation on a continuous loop. The authorizing person would contact one of the four trained people (Dorrell, Julie Marchesi, Bob or Nikki). The individual would go to the broadcast room, prepare the PowerPoint presentation and activate three switches to select the PowerPoint output, one for each of the three channels. $90 covers the cost for the amplifier and switches required.
Other stuff – The
committee unanimously endorsed the renewed membership of Bea, Holly, Marilyn,
Hal and Perry, plus a new applicant – Debra Garner. Their names will be
submitted to the Board of Directors for approval (deadline is Sept. 30.)
Next meeting – 10 a.m. Oct. 8 in the logo building.
