Resident Communication Committee
Meeting minutes from Perry – 8:30 a.m. March 10, 2004,  at Riverbend.

Present – Juli Yale, chairwoman; Bea Boockholdt, Debra Garner, Perry Molinaro, Marilyn Fletcher, Roland Faricy, Bob Rasmussen, Joan Schmid.

Absent – Hal Meeks, Nikki Walsh, Holly Field.

Juli opened the meeting and welcomed Joan Schmid (broadcast) to the RCC.

Phone directory: The new directory is ready for delivery. Extra copies are $5 at the CAM office. The directory revenue was more than $50,000. Bob showed a Sun City map from Bob Nachman at 11 x 17 inches with street locations and Riverbend on the back. The new mapmaker also prepared a map showing businesses, etc., from Sun City to Hilton Head (see “Other stuff” below).

Newcomers: Bea’s February report showed 84 new residents greeted from 49 homes and four coffees with 74 attendees from 44 homes.

Broadcast: Joan Schmid said the board candidate videotaping started the week of the RCC meeting and will be shown on Sun City channels the week of March 14. The first candidate forum, April 8, will be broadcast live and videotaped. The April 14 forum will be videotaped (7 to 9 p.m.) and the April 16 forum (10 a.m. to noon) will be broadcast live and videotaped. The April 29 Board of Directors meeting will be broadcast live and also be videotaped. Joan said the varying volume of voices on the morning news broadcasts remains a problem. Bob suggested the reporters watch the console for voice levels and make adjustments as necessary. A new program, “Know Your Community Leader,” has begun on the channels. Joan said editing software that stays in the broadcast room is needed. Bob said most people find the software to be too difficult so that a simpler product is being sought. As far as buying equipment, the communications manager budget includes money for such expenditures. Joan said she and broadcast co-chairwoman Marge Yanker are working to have the broadcast and program committees identify their areas of responsibility and to improve communications between them.

Publications: Nikki Walsh’s last day as communications manager is March 19. Richard Vetter from Del Webb accounting is her successor. He attended his first meeting with the publications group March 8.

Other stuff: Bob Nachman’s proposed map, which Juli showed at the meeting, would cost about $2,900 for 5,000 copies, and she will be looking for advertisements to pay for it. The map lists businesses and shows housing developments, etc., from Sun City to Hilton Head. It would be used mainly for newcomers and prospective residents. Juli also asked Debra and Marilyn to begin working on an information index that would list available resources for the who, what, why, when and where and their locations, i.e. telephone book, SunSations, etc. This, too, would be mainly for newcomers but also could be a valuable reference guide for CAM.

Next meeting: 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Riverbend. Remaining 2004 meetings will continue at the same time on the second Wednesday of the month at Riverbend.
