Resident Communication Committee

Meeting minutes from Perry – 8:30 a.m. May 12, 2004, at Pinckney Hall.

Present – Juli Yale, chairwoman; Holly Field, Perry Molinaro, Marilyn Fletcher, Roland Faricy, Joan Schmid, Richard Vetter.

Absent: Debra Garner, Bea Boockholdt, Rob Rasmussen

Juli opened the meeting, introduced Richard Vetter, communications manager, and gave the reports for Bea and Bob.

Publications: Holly said that ad revenue for July was $13,000 and that advertisers now will pay one month in advance on their contracts.  SunSations is budgeted at $10,000 a month, but ad revenue is coming in higher as noted above. Richard said SunSations will now be printed by Sun Printing, based in Orangeburg but with a local representative. This is being for cost savings, for better printing quality and for more inside color at reasonable rates. Holly and Richard said a woman who heads the Fripp Island TV is willing to meet here to discuss her method of tying in ads with features, such as having an event program with an event sponsor on our channels.

Phone directory. June 2 is the deadline for any changes to the directory. The supplement will be included with the July SunSations.

Newcomers. Bea’s activity report for April 2004 showed 74 new residents greeted from 43 homes and three coffees with 55 attendees from 35 homes.

Broadcast.  Joan said more substitute readers are needed for the morning news broadcasts. Joyce Tartow, who heads the a.m. reports, is arranging for club presidents to be interviewed by the readers for about 10 minutes during the broadcasts. The editing software has been purchased and now people will be trained to use it. Charlie Mitchell will be away this summer and Larry Della Vecchia and Dan McGuire will fill in for the Wednesday evening sports show.

Other stuff: Hal Meeks has resigned from the committee. Juli said she would like Steve Koehl to rejoin the committee, now that he is no longer on the community Board of Directors.  Steve, when he could, has been attending RCC meetings as a Board member. The terms for Juli, Bob and Roland expire in October. Juli does not plan to re-up but will continue to serve on Publications. Roland suggested new faces are needed on the committee but will continue if all the open positions have not been applied for.  As for Bob, it would be difficult to find a replacement to handle the phone directory and Juli reported that he wants to re-up. With term expirations coming up on other board-appointed committees, it was decided that Perry do a report for the July SunSations stating the functions of each committee, the number of vacancies, plus the procedure and deadline for seeking appointment, etc.

Next meeting – No June meeting.  Juli, Bob and Joan will be out of town, so it was decided to cancel that meeting.  The 8:30 a.m. July 14 meeting – and subsequent meetings -- might be held in Pinckney rather than at Riverbend. Juli will clear the room assignment with Cam and advise members of changes.
