RCC Minutes – 9-8-04

The Resident Communication Committee met at 8:30 a.m., Sept. 8 in Pinckney Hall.  Attending were chair J. Yale, D. Garner, B. Boockholdt, J. Schmid, H. Field, B. Rasmussen, R. Vetter and M. Fletcher. Guests: Phylis Giglinto, Joe Fragale, Bob Mahnke.  Excused: P. Molinaro, & R. Faricy.

Juli introduced CAM’s new executive director, Bob Mahnke, who was so impressed with the first color issue of SunSations that he suggested we should submit it for competition to the Community Association Institute.  He feels it could win an award.

Each committee member told Mahnke about their respective responsibilities.  Juli told of the absent members’ importance on the committee.

Broadcast:  Joan Schmid talked about the October TV programs scheduled, as well as September.  Channel 51 has been off the air; struck by lightning again.  Still need video camera people and editors to assist.  She announced there is a new leader, Riette Boxer, for the Sunrise Readers. Riette held a special session with Jody Dorrell leading it, for readers, to aid them in handling the mikes.

Newcomers:  Bea’s activity report showed that this welcoming group has greeted 77 new residents from 43 homes in August; held 3 coffees with 60 attendees from 35 homes.  YTD: Greeted 563 new residents from 321 homes; held 24 coffees with 471 attendees from 284 homes.  Also they continue to do the ‘Welcome New Residents’ column in Sunsations.

Addl. Tax Issue:  Phylis Giglinto and Joe Fragale, from Government and Business Affairs Committee are eager to reach residents and events in Sun City and neighboring communities prior to November election.  The Addl. Tax committee is working with GBAC as liaison with various groups.  Members made suggestions to help them with communications.

Publications:  Holly Field told group of the many compliments the first color SunSations has received.  There is a wait list for realtors’ ads.  Ad revenue was budgeted at $11,000/month but is now bringing in $15,000+/month.  Holly, Richard and others were commended by committee for the fine job they did. Coming: a new hire in Communications Department.

Phone Directory & Maps: Bob R. said the new telephone directory would be out first week in March; no schedule yet for next directory.  He needs all the ‘front’ copy by early November; white page listings by first 2 weeks in December.  Bob said the current map (used at front gate) has everything that has been built and is working on a new map for neighborhood ‘The Aviary’.  All the streets are on the January map.

Juli said there has been a delay in the Sun City to HH bridge map (merchants, stores, etc.).  Glenda in sales is working on it, which may be printed soon.  Bea said she wanted it available to newcomers.  Distribution method discussed, unknown to date.  Juli is checking to see what department will handle that.

Information Index: Debra G. has had a big job assembling information. Now what do we do with it?   Rasmussen says to send it to put in the phone book.  More to come.

Review of RCC positions:  Juli: B. Rasmussen, J. Yale and R. Faricy terms end this committee in November.  Three applicants to come on:  B. Rasmussen, Ed Wiler and Steve Koehl.  The committee supported sending these 3 names to the CAM Board of Directors for approval.  They will come on committee in November.

Future meetings:  Juli announced:  8:30 Weds., 10/13 in Chechessee Room, 11/10 in Riverbend (may be moved to Logo) and she will line up place for 12/8 meeting, but leave the 2005 meetings to the new RCC board in Nov.

Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn Fletcher, sub. for Molinaro
