Meeting minutes by Perry Molinaro
Present – Juli Yale, chairwoman; Perry Molinaro, Joan Schmid, Steve Koehl, Debra Garner, Bea Boockholdt, Bob Rasmussen, Marilyn Fletcher, Richard Vetter, Holly Field. Absent: – Roland Faricy, Al Reuben.
Juli opened the meeting and noted that RCC minutes need to be submitted to Donna Schaefer or Sylvia Higgins along with submitting for Steve's Web site. This was Juli’s final meeting as an RCC member other than opening the next meeting and conducting election of officers for the coming term.
Web site: Richard, Bob and Steve talked about the Oct. 7 Web site meeting. Richard said anyone could log onto the site. It would cost $120,000 a year at build-out, but Bob said this would not provide a solution to Sun City Web site problems. Steve said the Board of Directors should decide how the site would be used. It would have advertisements, and Richard said it would need many to pay for itself. It was suggested that SCHH build its own site.
Publications: Holly said SunSations continues to improve, especially with the addition of color. The Finance Committee has approved next year’s budget. An increase of four more pages has been approved and a waiting list of advertisers would more than cover the cost of these pages when additional pages are added in the future. The Associated Press stylebook is available now.
Newcomers: In September, Bea’s group greeted 89 new residents from 52 homes and held five coffees with 97 attendees from 59 homes. For the first nine months of 2004, 652 new residents were greeted from 284 homes and 29 coffees were held for 568 attendees from 243 homes.
Phone directory and maps: The cutoff for white page changes for residents is Dec.10 and Nov. 1 for everything else for the next published telephone book due out in March 2005. Announcements to that effect will be in SunSations. A map replacement is being prepared.
Broadcast. Joan said Charlie Mitchell is back with his sports show. She said the Broadcast group is doing everything it can – including SunSations articles -- to let residents know what’s on Channel 50. Several volunteers have signed up for camera work. Broadcast will have a table at the Oct. 30 Club Fair at Pinckney Hall. The Sunrise reader program will be discontinued on Sundays. The Channel 51 bulletin board announcements still can’t be updated because of equipment problems.
Special projects: Debbie will meet with Bea, Steve and Juli regarding the information resource index. First priority will be to recommend additions or changes in the telephone book to meet Bob's deadline for the March 2005 book. Recommendations will include moving static information in SunSations. Next: Debbie's goal is to get index to Steve for inclusion on the Web site.
Other stuff: Juli submitted a recommendation to the Board of Directors Sept. 26 for Bob Rasumusen’s continuation and the reappointments of Steve Koehl and Ed Wiler to the RCC. The board is expected to approve this at its Oct. 28 meeting. Roland Faricy, who also completed his term along with Juli Yale, said in a note that he enjoyed his tenure on the RCC. (In e-mails, he also praised the look of SunSations.)
Next meeting – The next meeting will be at 1 pm Nov.16 at the home of Juli Yale. New RCC chair, vice chair and secretary will be elected for the November 2004-November 2005 term. The second priority will be to schedule future meetings.
