Juli Yale’s home.
Meeting minutes by Perry Molinaro.
Present – Juli Yale, outgoing chairwoman; Perry Molinaro, Joan Schmid, Steve Koehl, Debra Garner, Bea Boockholdt, Bob Rasmussen, Marilyn Fletcher, Holly Field, Al Reuben, Ed Wiler. Absent: Richard Vetter.
Juli welcomed Ed Wiler and Steve Koehl as new RCC members. This was Juli’s final official meeting with the RCC.
Web site: Steve said that after a meeting with Bob Mahnke, CAM executive director, that at build-out a Web site would cost a couple thousand dollars a year. Steve and Bob said an official Web site is needed; Steve will continue updating his unofficial site.
Publications: Holly said that as of December, SunSations has increased to 64 pages. Revenue for the month at $13,500 was down a little from the previous month. Concern was expressed about two CAM staffers submitting SunSations material way past deadline. Marilyn was asked to talk with both of them, explaining the fifth of the month deadline that must be adhered to or risk not having their columns/material in the current SunSations publication.
Newcomers: In October, Bea’s group greeted 86 new residents from 51 homes and held three coffees with 61 attendees from 44 homes. She pointed out that the committee always needs hosts and hostesses for the coffees.
Phone directory and map: Photos for the cover of the 2005 phone directory have been submitted for consideration by Data Publishing. The new street map will be an improvement over the previous ones, particularly because better software is being used that will have curved street names. Also, the map will be 8 ˝ by 11 inches. Bob planned to speak with the neighborhood representatives Thursday (Nov. 18) about map revisions. Juli noted that Publications Committee was pleased that some information in SunSations will be moved to the phone book.
Broadcast. Joan said the Sunrise Readers coordinators want to return to reading but that current readers are reluctant to give up their spots. It was suggested that the coordinators might want to consider subbing for regular readers on a regular bases, most likely on different days. More substitute readers are always needed and Joan is working on updating the sub list. The Sunday news broadcast has been discontinued because of the late hour (1 p.m.) and lack of listener response. The Monday-Saturday broadcasts will continue at 10 a.m. on Channel 50. Fliers have been put up about Channel 50 broadcasts. This includes repeating a videotaped program at 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday using available automated equipment. Money apparently is in the CAM budget to hire a part timer to help Richard with video matters. Al suggested looking into getting infomercials aired with having, for example, some company that rents a Pinckney room for a presentation to pay to run an infomercial. Joan will discuss this with the programming committee.
Information map: Juli gave each member a color map showing businesses and services in the Bluffton area. Pulte sponsored the publication of 5,000 maps. Holly suggested that the map should not be free and that CAM handle sales. The printing, updating and other costs need to be determined. Bea and Juli will meet with CAM and Pulte representatives to discuss this project further.
New officers: Marilyn and Debra were elected chairwoman and vice chairwoman, respectively, and Perry as secretary.
Next meetings: 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Holly’s home, 117 Robert E. Lee Lane (with food); 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, in the logo building; 4 p.m. Feb. 9, logo building or Hidden Cypress (if completed). All future meetings are set for Hidden Cypress conference room.
