Resident Communication Committee
Meeting minutes from Perry – 1 p.m. April 13,
2005, at Hidden Cypress.
Present – Marilyn Fletcher, chairwoman; Bob
Rasmussen, Holly Field, Joan Schmid, Steve Koehl, Richard Vetter, Perry
Molinaro, Debra Garner. Absent: Ed Wiler, Bea Boockholdt, Al Reuben.
Jody Dorrell and Ryan Nelson were
guests at the meeting.
Broadcast: As of now, no definite
location has been set for broadcast equipment to be moved. It is likely
that the new activities building will not have enough space; therefore,
the move would be in Pinckney Hall. Marilyn talked with Don Avedon,
chairman of the activities building resident committee. The group is
compiling requests from groups and clubs for space and looking at
available space. The committee has been asked to have its recommendations
ready for the architect by July 1 but first, Ken Hull, general manager,
would have to approve these. The early plans allowed for two broadcast
rooms no larger than 10 by 12-foot each. Carl Nusbaum and Bob Taylor of
the Community Theater are to investigate the audio, video, lighting and
other needs in the theater space. Avedon suggested that the RCC make a
list of the broadcast needs
and submit it to his committee and to the three resident board members,
recognizing that the second-floor facility is inadequate. Bob suggested
the RCC first find out who granted the authority to Avedon to head such a
committee. Marilyn appointed Bob to head a subcommittee with Steve and
Joan to come up with RCC suggestions. Ryan Nelson will also serve as an
ex-officio member. Bob will invite Jody and Avedon to the group’s first
meeting. In other broadcast matters, Joan said programming is on all day
on Channel 50 (WSL-TV). Interviews are being conducted by John Berry, and
Marci Baggetta is the new head of the Sunrise Readers program. Bob will
contact a possible replacement for Joan and Marge Yanker as broadcast
chairwomen. Marilyn and other RCC members commended Joan for staying on
until a replacement is found.
Newcomers. (Bea submitted her report for
Marilyn and Perry.) First-quarter report: January, greeted
123 new residents from 69 homes; February, 89 new residents from 52
homes; March, 123 new residents from 73 homes; total – 335 new residents
from 194 homes. Welcome coffees: January, four with 63 new residents from
44 homes; February, five with 88 new residents from 54 homes; March, four
with 75 new residents from 45 homes. Total attendance: 13 coffees with 226
new residents from 143 homes.
Publications. Holly said SunSations has expanded by four pages and it has a
waiting list for advertisements. On giving space to outside groups, it was
suggested and approved unanimously that only groups holding meetings in
Sun City facilities would be listed in the publication. Outside groups
that meet elsewhere would not be given space. The information color maps
(from Del Webb sales) are available free at the CAM desk
Phone directory and
map: Bob said delivery of the directory was about a week late because the
Hargray directory was late. The Sun City directory is delivered with
Hargray’s.
Web sites: Steve presented a
report of requested downloads on schhca.org with design guidelines heading
the list of requests followed by the gridmap. Richard reported nothing new
has been done about a Sun City site.
Other stuff: Steve suggested that
RCC appoint someone to maintain archives on the history of Sun City. The
motion was tabled. Marilyn will give the RCC report at the April 20 Board
of Directors meeting.
