Jo Stephey introduced Bert Walker & Nick Del Pozzo, two members from the newly formed Technical Advisory Group for the BOD. They said the advisory group wants to do an in-depth survey on the community Web site in four parts – for individuals, for clubs, for neighborhoods and for CAM staff. The purpose of the survey is to solicit information from the four groups about the needs and desires for a community Web site. The subcommittee is dealing with the survey only, not contracts, control, etc. It was recommended that Bert and Nick ask Bob Rasmussen and Steve Koehl to assist in formulation of the survey. Paul Shane agreed to help as needed.
August 15 meeting canceled due to too many absences.
Broadcast. Jim McGrath made the motion that the RCC give the Broadcast committee authorization to continue researching the feasibility of obtaining a low-power FM radio station for Sun City. The motion passed. Jim talked about potential usage in hurricane preparedness, up-front costs, hours of running, staffing, etc. Perry said he would send a note on the approved motion to Jo Stephey for BOD consideration.
Publications: Daniel announced that SunSations has been enlarged to 96 pages, starting with the October issue. The size increase is due to enlarging print size and additional “usage” pages.
Telephone directory and maps. The directory supplement will be delivered with the October issue of SunSations. An updated map was distributed in September.
NewComers’ Welcoming Group. Bea Boockholdt stated activity has been slow, but is picking up.
We don’t seem to be hearing from many of the resale new owners. July activity: Greeted 56 new residents from 37 homes; held 3 coffees with 37 attendees from 26 homes. August activity: Greeted 61 new residents from 37 homes: held 2 coffees with 38 attendees from 17 homes.
Web Site. Paul Shane reported that the portal was unavailable to the community from Sunday evening, September 16, until Tuesday evening, September 18. He finally reached ICI and said the process was slow in getting the portal services back.
New Business. Bea’s status to continue as an RCC member. As Jo Stephey pointed out, the current BOD documented policy states that after serving two consecutive terms on a committee, a member must take a one-year hiatus before any subsequent appointment. The policy also states that the Board of Directors may waive this requirement if there are no other qualified candidates for the position. The committee does not need to take any formal action. It was suggested at the meeting that a possible solution would be for Bea to remain as head of Newcomers even if she were not an appointed member of the RCC. Although no formal action on Bea’s status was necessary, Perry said he would send a note to Jo Stephey on both this matter and on the Broadcast motion (FM station).
Next meeting. 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, at Hidden Cypress. Please contact Perry if you CANNOT attend and to have an agenda item listed.
Respectfully submitted,
Bea Boockholdt
