Communication Committee
4:00 p.m. October 17, 2007
Coosaw River Room
Present: Perry Molinaro, Steve Koehl, Bob Rasmussen, Jim McGrath, Hal Dutton, Daniel Baxter, Jo Stephey.
Guests: Paul Shane, Sidney Schwartz
Absent: John Lynch, Bea Boockholdt, Ida Creal
Minutes of the September 19 meeting were approved.
Broadcast: Jim McGrath said the subcommittee received Board of Directors’ approval to proceed with its investigation into getting a low-power FM radio station for Sun City. The subcommittee will contact Congress members to push this action forward. Bob Rasmussen said that Magnolia Hall plans show inadequate audio and camera designs for videotaping.
Publications: Daniel announced that, starting with the October issue, SunSations has gone from 84 to 96 pages with a larger font size and increased advertising. He said the response was positive.
Telephone directory and maps: Bob said a new map was available as of September. Steve Koehl has made a color version on his Web site. Bob also said attendants at the main gate had been using many of the old maps because they ran out of the new ones. The directory supplement was distributed with the October SunSations and the photo for the 2008 directory cover has been selected.
NewComers’ Welcoming Group: Bea’s report for September showed the group greeted 72 new residents from 39 homes and held two coffees with 46 attendees from 27 homes.
Web Site: Paul Shane reported that usage remained constant with no real increase. He suggested that Broadcast group help promote the site as done in SunSations. Jo Stephey said the new Technology Advisory Committee is evaluating the site and is suggesting that a better solution to the current site is needed.
New Business 1: Perry said the Board of Directors has appointed members for the six open seats: Jim McGrath and Bea Boockholdt (reappointments) and William Berry, Joyce Hoerner, Joan Schmid and Sidney Schwartz. Hal Dutton and Ida Creal, outgoing members, were thanked for serving on the RCC.
New Business 2: Bob Rasmussen suggested that the RCC bylaws be amended to show that the heads of each subcommittee be RCC members. (As of now, Publications is the only subcommittee without a resident chairman or chairwoman.) Any action on Bob’s suggestion will have to go before the new RCC membership.
Next meeting: 4 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, in the Coosaw Room at Hidden Cypress. This will be a reorganization meeting with nominations and election of chairman, vice chairman (woman) and secretary. New members will of course be notified. Please let Perry know if you CANNOT attend this important meeting. This will be Perry’s final meeting after having served for six years on the RCC.
Respectfully submitted,
Perry Molinaro
