hances are tickets are sold out already for this year’s version of the popular Follies. If you’ve never attended a Follies production, then you’ll be in for a treat. Directors Carl Nusbaum and Marvin Pearlstein have put together a song-and-dance-filled show that showcases the talent of approximately 75 performers in at least 35 acts. Some favorites will perform, but several new acts will also be featured.
The theme is “There’s No Business Like Show Business” and it will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, September 13-15, with an additional performance at 2 p.m. September 15.
Art Hansen is music director, Judi Cummings is the choreographer and Bob Crewdson is the producer.
Need tickets? If still available, they’ll be on sale from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday in Pinckney Hall.

recent newsletter from the Bedminster Group (a faithful SCCT sponsor) echoed the sentiments of most everyone who attended SCCT’s June production of “My Fair Lady” at Bluffton High School: “spectacular presentation … a new standard for performance, not just for Sun City, but for all theater in the Lowcountry. Bravo!”
“Lady” was a marvelous success. Congratulations to everyone associated with the show, from the directors to the ticket sellers and from the backstage crew to the cast – a job exceedingly well done!
Community Theatre members have also enjoyed the steady quality of monthly productions, with attendance averaging nearly 300.
As member interests and skills continue to grow, we are challenged to increase opportunities for participation and growth by our members and to sustain the quality of productions that our audiences have come to expect.
To address these objectives, your executive board has been working actively to assure that SCCT programs are responsive to the interests of members. At the general membership meeting Thursday, October 11, we’ll review what has been accomplished in 2007 and discuss what’s planned for 2008. We’ll also provide some wonderful entertainment. Please mark your calendars to attend this very important meeting.
--Bob Taylor, SCCT president
Memory lane

he Follies will be over, but the fun never stops for Sun City Community Theatre. At the September monthly meeting, members will enjoy a trip down memory lane as authentic scripts from the golden age of radio are presented. Included are Baby Snooks, Burns & Allen, Suspense Theater, Life of Riley, Henry Aldrich, Lights Out and a rib-tickling modern version of an Abbott & Costello routine. Prepare to have a wonderful evening Thursday, September 27, when co-directors Larry Della Vecchia and Joan Galasso present “Radio Daze III.”
Dominick Wasielewski is the producer of the monthly productions.
Hilarious farce

he final traditional performance of the year will be “Moon Over Buffalo” November 1-3 in Pinckney Hall.
Rehearsals have started already for this production directed by Bob McCloskey and Bob Taylor. The action and dialogue are fast-paced in this hilarious farce by Tony Award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig (“Crazy for You,” “Lend Me a Tenor”).
You’ll be backstage with George and Charlotte Hay, two middle-aged actors seeking one last shot at Hollywood. But mistaken identities, an illicit affair and swashbuckling action threaten to scuttle their ambitions while promising an evening of laughs and enjoyment for the audience.
The cast features Arturo Iriarte, Maya White, Bernie Anderson, Anrose Perlstein, Ed Galloway, Carol Wroblewski, Mike Stallone and Patricia Arnao. Ralph Spiegel is the producer.
Ticket information will be provided later.
Workshops
|
S |
CCT members have been very busy with workshops since July when the first Beginning Acting I session began. Participants have learned the mechanics of stage movement, vocal projection, improvisation and pantomime as well as the conventions of the stage.
In August, the set design workshop began under the leadership of Gordon Hooper. His students will be displaying their work at future shows.
Esther Rosen is conducting a costuming workshop in which participants are learning period design and fabrication as well as how to make a thrift-shop purchase and modify it into a period piece. They will also be designing costumes for “Moon Over Buffalo.”
Sue Jesella and Ralph Spiegel conducted a one-day, six-hour lighting workshop in August in Pinckney Hall. In September, Esther Rosen will be leading another Beginning Acting I worshop. September 17 is the beginning date for SCCT members participating in the Writing the One-Act Play workshop at the University of South Carolina through the Life Long Learning Institute. Jan Henson Dow, an SCCT member and accomplished playwright, will conduct the classes.
Carol Wroblewski, head of the workshop committee, is planning 2008 workshops in improvisation, reader’s theater and acting. Call Carol at 705-2387 for details.
