Mission Statement

To be broadly recognized as a successful community theatre company, offering satisfying participation and growth opportunities to members in all areas of theater, while continuing to present high quality theatrical productions to all audiences.

Annual Meeting Highlights

The January annual business meeting highlighted how successful SCCT had been in 2008, the growing membership, and what wonderful productions are in store for 2009. This year SCCT will produce six major productions, up from four last year. In addition, the Follies, a musical revue, will again be held in September. The first show of the season, Same Time, Next Year, was a huge success due to the hard-working crew and cast. In 2008, 130 SCCT members participated on stage in performances. Numerous others have been involved in many of the non-performing facets of a theater organization. In addition, advertising revenue dramatically doubled in 2008 and new content has been added in the playbills.

Sunny Awards and Dinner

Don’t miss out on the annual SUNNY Awards Dinner on Thursday, February 12 in Pinckney Hall. A cash bar opens at 5 pm followed by a sumptuous buffet dinner catered by the British Open Pub at $20 per person. Checks made payable to SCCT can be dropped off to Beth Hornbostel, 10 Clairborne Ct., or call her at 705-3398. Members can attend the awards without attending dinner. However, dinner participants will get preferential seating at the spectacular Awards ceremony in beautiful Magnolia Hall at 7:30 pm. There will also be five SAMMY AWARDS this year for those who have contributed and given unselfishly to the Theater in 2008. Sun City talent will present some song and dance entertainment. Hurry and get your tickets!

Little Mary Sunshine

In the new Magnolia Hall on March 12, 13, &14 SCCT will present its first theatrical production, Little Mary Sunshine. The play is “a wonderful parody and delightful musical spoof satirizing early operettas.” Taking place high in the Rocky Mountains at a quaint little inn in Colorado, the story revolves around guests of the inn, forest rangers, pretty girls, Indians and of course, Little Mary Sunshine.

Sun City’s popular Wendell MacNeal is directing this hilarious comedy and is accompanied by Norma Lavelle as choreographer. Wait until you see the moves Lavelle has created that will bring this delightful show into motion! Of course, the wonderful music and delightful voices you will hear comes from the tutelage of Sun City’s music director, Art Hansen. This is a “must see” folks.

If you have not purchased your Season Subscription tickets yet, some are still some available. If you need to purchase individual tickets, you can do so at the Box Office. The Box Office at Magnolia Hall will officially open for Little Mary Sunshine ticket exchanges only on February 9 from 9-11 am. Individual ticket sales for LMS will commence on February 11 and continue every Monday-Wednesday-Friday, except Feb. 18, from 9-11 am. Tickets will also be sold 30 minutes before each performance unless sold out.
