Resident Communication Committee Report For The
Board Of Directors Meeting, April 24, 2003
Report by Juli Yale, Chair
Reporting at the Board of Directors meeting will be Chair, Juli Yale
v Broadcast: Chair, Marilyn Fletcher reports -CAM and Del Webb have worked out an agreement with Davidson Cable to turn over Channels 51 and 52 for local broadcasting starting June 1. Resident activities, events, etc. will be broadcast on Ch. 50, bulletin board announcements on 51 and CAM information on 52. Also for Ch. 50: Bulletin board information will run when video programs are not available and the morning news reading will continue. Example video presentations will include the softball game between residents and Del Webb employees which aired April 1 and club meeting presentations such as a recent Computer Club program titled – What to do until the “doctor” comes! Announcements detailing the channel changes appear in SunSations and a brochure is being prepared for Newcomers group distribution.
v Newcomers Welcome Committee: Chair, Bea Boockholdt reports - this year to date:
162 newcomers were greeted from 89 homes
9 coffees with 147 attendees from 84 homes
v Publications: Chair, Holly Field reports - Communications Manager, Nikki Walsh, is concentrating her initial efforts with the publication of SunSations. Revenue is up and people are calling to get advertising space. Ad rates have risen, but are lower than those of other local publications. A new printer (Omega Graphics Direct) is being used on a trial basis. Omega Graphics is local and printing costs are substantially better. Quark software is now being used in CAM for camera-ready pages. Paper stock and color usage will remain the same. Nikki is planning a survey to get resident feedback on SunSations.
v Telephone Book: Chair, Bob Rasmussen reports - the printing and early April delivery of our new book was on schedule. The printer, Data Publishing (a subsidiary of Hargray Communications), and CAM split advertising revenue 50-50 after expenses. This amounted to $44,294 in 2002 for the administration office’s budget, and should increase slightly in 2003. Bob’s Sun City map, showing all streets by location and name, is available at the main gate.
v Web Site: – Information on Steve Koehl’s unofficial web site is now being published in SunSations and on Channel 50. Steve suggested including our RCC report on the web site. Starting with our March 12 minutes we are “on the web.” This report to the board will also be included.
v Communications Manager, Nikki Walsh, will involve herself more with Broadcast and the Web Site subcommittees of RCC once SunSations is settled in with the new “in house” camera-ready pages and the printer change.
v A Special Thank You to Ed Wiler. Ed was a key resident with the initiation and charter of the Resident Communication Committee. Throughout his busy schedule on the Board of Directors he continued to give invaluable advice to our committee. His knowledge, vision, ethics, dedication and ability proved him a true team player not only to us but for our whole community. These words of thanks don’t begin to say how special he is and what he has meant to all of us. Thank you Ed!
