Resident Communication Committee Report for
The CAM Board of Directors meeting, April 20, 2005
Report by Marilyn Fletcher, chair
Reporting at the Board of
Directors meeting will be vice-chair, Debra Garner
Broadcast: Primary discussion was the impact
of the coming new activities building and whether or not there will be
space for the broadcast equipment and actual broadcasting. The chairman of the resident
activities building committee had indicated to us that there was a
possibility broadcasting would remain in Pinckney Hall. The current space in Pinckney is
woefully inadequate for our needs and the RCC is eager to have suitable
facilities. Bob Rasmussen was
appointed chair of a
subcommittee to study, then convey our needs to the appropriate
committee(s). Chair Joan
Schmid announced that Channel 50 now has video programming airing much of
each day now, with WSL-TV chosen as Channel 50 call letters. Marci Baggetta is the new head of
the Sunrise Readers program. The
RCC is still seeking a new chairperson to replace Schmid and Marge Yanker,
who have resigned. Joan is
staying on until a new chair is found.
Coming shortly on Channel 50 are the board candidates’ interviews
and forums. There will be
taped replays of these, with times announced on Channel 50’s bulletin
board and in Pinckney Hall lobby.
Newcomers
Welcome: Bea Boockholdt
filed her report in absentia, reporting that for the first quarter of
2005, the committee members held 13 coffees with 226 residents attending,
representing 143 homes.
Publications: Richard Vetter and Holly Field
reported that SunSations has expanded, adding 4 pages, totaling 68 pages
in the April issue. There is
an advertising wait list of clients, however SunSations has reached the
expansion limit without hiring additional staff. Because of space limitations,
there has been discussion about equitable use of space for outside groups. Regarding giving space to
non-chartered groups to promote their meetings, there was unanimous
approval that SunSations
space should be given only to those groups holding meetings in Sun City
facilities. Other methods of
choosing which outside groups to list are unwieldy and costly in space
usage and staff time.
Color maps of Sun City and the local area are free and available to
residents on request from the CAM office staff.
Telephone
Directory: Chair
Bob Rasmussen reported that the Sun City phone books were about a week
late being delivered. The Sun
City directory was ready on time, but with it being delivered with
Hargray’s telephone directory which was late, it meant the Sun City directory was
delayed in delivery.
Web
Sites: Steve Koehl
reported on the leading downloads by residents, with design guidelines
being the number one request. His
web site, schhhca.org is the
source of community
information. Richard Vetter
reported that we remain in a holding pattern on a potential Sun City
computer site to be available to residents.
