Is The Rumor About The Activities Building True?

The answer depends on the specific rumor. Regardless, it's unlikely that the rumor you've heard is true. To put it in the words of Jerry McQuaid:

"Scott Middleton has not made a decision on the configuration of the Activities Building."

Here's a bit of context. At the meeting of the Interclub Council, January 13, 2006, Jerry McQuaid, one of the resident members of our Board of Directors, was invited to speak on volunteerism. Following his presentation, Jerry took questions from the audience. One question played into Jerry's topic, referring to the notion, now making the rounds, that the effort by a number of volunteers to provide input into the design of the new Activities Building had been ignored. The most drastic form of this rumor is that there will actually be no building. Another version is that the new building will be much like Pinckney Hall, with no aspect that could be described as a performance venue.

Jerry answered with many details about what has actually happened late that week, and asked that his remarks be summarized as above.  [As it happens, I was at the meeting, took note of this important information, and crafted the above description. -Ed.]
